week 65

This week I installed the door glass and related items. You could see the brake pads through the wheels and they didn't look very good so I removed them, sandblasted and painted them red. The AC Delco spark plugs had already gas fouled due to the 2 four barrel carburetors so I installed a set of NGK plugs in the motor. They seem to be holding up better so far. I had a major setback Thursday morning, I was cleaning the car up and felt something in the passenger door; I found a crack about 4" long in the outside skin right were the door latch is. Upon further inspection I found that the door latch was against some adhesive that Superior Glassworks had used to glue the door together. They had installed the door latches and had only used 2 bolts to hold them in place. There was enough play in the holes that let the door latch move back and forth each time the door was opened and closed. The latch was pushing on the adhesive which in turn was pushing on the door skin and finally cracked the skin. I fixed the crack, repainted the door, ground out the excess adhesive and installed a couple more bolts in the latch to help support it. I also removed the drivers door latch and ground out the excess adhesive behind it before the same thing happened to it. The way the taillights were made a person would have to remove the trunk interior panels to change the bulbs so I modified the inner buckets and glued them in place so you could just remove the lens from the outside to change the bulb. I cleaned the car up and took a few more photos. Next week it's off to the interior shop.
