The customer wanted the chassis "slicked out" so I filled the welds and misc. other areas on it this week. I then sanded the filler, cleaned and tacked the chassis, sprayed 2 coats of Dupont's Variprime 615s/620s primer/sealer on it, sprayed 3 coats of Dupont's 1144s 2K urethane primer/filler on it and then shot a guide coat over it. The guide coat consists of Dupont's 99K Chromabase paint mixed 1:1 with lacquer thinner. The purpose of the guide coat is so you can see where any imperfections are in the primer- i.e. sand scratches, pin holes, low areas, etc. I will sand all of the guide coat off unless I hit metal first in which then I will fill the area with 3M's 05824 flowable finishing putty. In case you are wondering it took approximately 7 hrs to spread the filler on the chassis and about 3 times that to sand it off. My fingers were rather sore when I got done.
