I cleaned up all the internal engine parts that needed to be done in preparation for re-assembling the motor. I picked up the motor from the machine shop and washed those parts as well. The rocker shafts and arms were worn so I ordered new ones. After everything was clean and ready I assembled the motor; all the clearances checked out OK.

I had sandblasted all the brackets, pulleys, etc for the engine and compartment so I hung most of them and painted them. The oil pan and valve covers were rusty and still a little cruddy inside so I drilled out the spot welds that held the inner shields in place and separated them. Once they were cleaned up I spot welded them back together. The exhaust studs were rusted so bad that they needed to be replaced; I was able to heat them up and screw them out without breaking them off.

I'll paint the engine and a few other parts next week, then it will be time to tackle the body work and paint on the car.
