I separated the motor and transmission and completely disassembled the motor. There were several nuts and bolts that had to be heated with a oxy-acetylene torch to get them loose. There were a few that were stubborn and broke off anyway. Those had to be drilled out and a Easy-out used on them. Three exhaust bolts wouldn't even come out with the Easy-out so I had to heat what was left of the bolt and drive it out with a hammer and punch. Luckily I didn't tear anything up too bad.

The motor was very slimy inside - it didn't appear that it had been taken care of very well - i.e. the oil wasn't changed very often. I had to drive the lifters out of the block and pry the camshaft out because of all the crud built up on them. Having worked on cars for almost 37 years now that's nothing new to me.
