I finally got all the dash and console parts cleaned up, sanded, sealed, and painted. They were a mess like everything else on this car; beat, bent up, and filthy. Luckily I got them cleaned good enough because the paint didn't fisheye anywhere when I sprayed the parts.
While the dash was out I fired the engine and checked all the vacuum pots - that operate the ventilation system doors - to make sure they worked and they did. The a/c compressor wouldn't kick in; it had juice going to it but the clutch wouldn't engage. I pulled the clutch off the compressor and found that the contacts were stuck. I cleaned everything up, put it back together, and it worked.
Now, if I can just remember how all the dash pieces go back together.
